Miniature homes for a cliffside view, a look at sculptures by Rosa de Jong
These miniature sculptures draw us into a fantasy of floating islands and peaceful living in isolation. These works showcase miniature islands of rocky terrane suspended by strings within wood frames and glass test tubes. Each island is full of vegetative life of moss and trees growing up the sides and on top of the island while modern minimalist homes do just the same, finding their own footing within the steep rock.
The artist behind these works is Rosa de Jong an Amsterdam-based Art Maker and graphic designer. When it comes to her art she loves to do things that involved working with her hands rather than technology as that’s where she finds her true happiness. For each sculpture in this project, she sources real materials such as dutch twigs, the bark of cork tree, cardboard. Her father helps with the process by crafting the wooden frames to house these Islands, with each frame comes adjustable wheels to allow you to move the positioning of the island inside.
