Mind-bending paintings of modern life, a look at Cinta Vidal
Cinta Vidal is creating mind-bending paintings that play with our perception. Vidal is encouraging the viewer to look beyond themselves and to pay attention to the world around them. We often ignore the backdrop of our life, this living community of a city so Cinta turns the cityscape upside down, right side up, and points every which way for what she describes as “un-gravity constructions.” With a background in scenography, painting large-scale backdrops for theatre and opera, Vidal is able to use this skill to render these hyper details large-scale paintings.
Her latest exhibition of works is at The Lancaster Museum of Art and History and will be on display until December 26th. The exhibition is titled “Concrete” and was curated by ThinkSpace Projects. You can view a selection of works below as well as follow Cinta on Instagram here.
“Concrete architecture pursues functionalism and the elimination of conventionalism and ornamentation. Durable and versatile, cement protects the fragility of the life that passes through it with hard and rough shapes. In the uncertain times we have had to live, our refuge has been our home. Astonished, western civilization have discovered its collective vulnerability and revalued the sense of family, neighborhood and community. The lights that shine from inside the homes are the reflection of everyday life inside each house in contrast to the darkness and uncertainty that is beyond. I love those mysterious moments between day and night, which invite rest and reflection.” – Cinta Vidal
