Italian Photographer Alessio Albi is 29 years old and began taking photos at age 24. He comes from a background of drawing and painting and focuses on portrait photography and storytelling. He utilizes each unique setting to create a story and aesthetic for each photo series. In this series, Alessio takes it back to what reminds us of a film set in Italy in the 30’s. The images show what appears to be a couple spending the morning in, relaxing and smoking while drinking what we assume is tea.
Alessio uses the smoke of the cigarette for an added layer of depth. The smoke at times covers the face of the subjects and other times is a background aesthetic. The light enhances each individual hair and curls, creating a more realistic feel to the photos. As oppose to photoshopping it out, something a lot of photographers do to for a clean and polished shot. Alessio, on the other hand, embraces these flyway hairs and use them as a prop. His approach to his work yields a result that feels alive. These particular photos grab you and suck you in. It’s almost like you can feel the smoke in the air while a sense of no worries and relaxation falls over you. And that’s the beauty of Alessio’s work. Its more than a portrait, each shot is a story.
