The Playful Illustrations of Artist Ykha Amelz

Suburbs Gallery proudly presents our Highlight no. 11, the talented Indonesian artist, Ykha Amelz. Specializing in 2D illustration, Ykha’s journey into the world of art began after she graduated in architecture when she decided to pursue her true passion for drawing. Since 2008, she has been capturing hearts and minds with her exceptional work, using graphite, ink, acrylic paint, and digital tools as her expressive media.

Ykha’s portfolio as a freelance illustrator is nothing short of impressive. Her artistic prowess spans various industries, from fashion, music, and advertising, to branding, and traditional art through her captivating paintings. Notably, her incredible talent has been featured in esteemed publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, ELLE Decoration, L’Officiel, Cosmopolitan, and NYLON, and she has been honored with an iD (Indonesia Design) Award in Best Product Design for her collaboration campaign with Guinness.

However, Ykha’s true calling emerged when she started doodling her beloved pet, Babbot. This rekindled her love for cartoons and comics, inspiring a significant shift in her illustration style. Her playful characters became a source of joy and entertainment for all, leading to local and international exhibitions, published books, and collaborations with major global brands, including VANS, COACH, Netflix, Spotify, and Samsung. Her artistry even earned her the title of VANS Indonesia brand ambassador for art in 2019.

In 2021, Ykha took her creativity to the digital world, making her NFT debut. Her artwork has evolved into a vibrant universe, blending inner-child nostalgia with a touch of chaotic brilliance. Inhabited by a delightful family of cartoon characters, her art serves as a cathartic expression of emotions and experiences.

Currently, Ykha is exploring the realm of frame-by-frame animation, aiming to spread happiness and evoke the feelings of being a carefree, happy kid through her art. Her heartfelt mission is to make people smile and cherish the playful innocence of their youth. Join us in celebrating the artistic brilliance of Ykha Amelz, a true master in the realm of playful illustrations. – Baku from Suburbs Gallery
